We're happy to share our PJs but you gotta find your own Patches!
A couple years ago, we had a foal born too early that had very little fur. It was March in Michigan and we needed a way to keep her warm. Finding a blanket for this filly was a nightmare! It was almost impossible to find one in such a small size, let alone something that would stay on. We had to rescue her countless times from a blanket situation. If the darn thing did stay on, her movement was restricted.
After some of trial and error, we put together something that fit our needs perfectly.
We use these PJ's with each new foal. We believe they played an important role with two special situations....the filly mentioned above and a colt born in 08.
" Lucky" had a severe reaction to an antibotic given to his dam. His fur fell out, he refused to nurse, and while itching himself - ingested some of his own hair causing him to become impacted. Alot of work went into saving this colt... 3 days in vet clinic, milk and care from a mare named Patches, and milking mare/feeding colt every 2 hours around the clock for 15 days.
Throughout his ordeal, Lucky wore our PJ's. He went to bed with a pair to keep him warm and during the day he wore a special light pair to keep him from getting sunburned. Lucky is now healthy, happy and furry.
